Homework week beginning 21/1/19 and news

Dear Parents,

This week we have been having lots of fun with fractions in maths! We have been working out fractions of numbers, for example 5/7 of 420! We´re getting the hang of it now! In English we have been continuing to learn about explanation texts and have learnt all about tsunamis and how jellyfish sting their prey. In art yesterday we were doing self-portraits, learning specifically how to use shading to improve their pictures. We´ve started our Science topic about the digestive systems of both humans and animals - always something which the children find fascinating and amusing!

The homework for next week is:

1. Maths sheet 14 - due in on Friday 25th January. Please stick it into the homework book.
2. Mental maths - learn the 7 times tables. Test on Friday 25th January.
3. English sheet - joining sentences. Please complete the sheet and stick it in the homework book.
4. Spellings - for the test on Monday 28th January: celebration, demonstration, examination, separation, exploration, starvation, rotation, nation, appreciation, taxation.

The certificates this week have been awarded to: Julia PA for the English award for great improvements in her English and working so hard all the time, Iker for the Spanish award from Miss Ana and Noelia for the headteacher´s award for starting 2019 with a great attitude towards her work.

Please note - the children all need to have a pen which can be used on a whiteboard. Please make sure that your child has one in their pencil case.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Many thanks, Miss Ali

Dear Parents,

We had an excellent morning learning about how to be safe on the roads. It was great fun riding the bikes. Some children even learnt how to ride a bike!

Homework week beginning 14/1/19 and other news!

Dear Parents,

We´ve had a great start to the new term and the children are all working really hard. This week we have learnt how to draw realistic eyes in art, started our topic on Ancient Egypt doing research on the computers and are learning about explanation texts in English.

It´s been great to hear all about the children´s Christmas holidays and their presents. They have been talking a lot to each other in Spanish during our lessons so have needed lots of reminders to speak in English!

The homework for next week is:

1. Maths sheet 13 - due in on Friday 18th January. Please stick it into the homework book.
2. Mental maths - halves of numbers from 50 to 100. For example half of 76 is 38, half of 52 is 26, half of 82 is 41 and so on. The test will be on Friday 18th January.
3. English - the suffix 'tion' worksheet. Please complete the worksheet and stick it into the homework book. Due in on Friday 18th January.
4. The spellings for the test on Monday 21st January will be:
basically, frantically, dramatically, hopefully, beautifully,  carefully, helpfully, classically, realistically, successfully.

Throughout the next two terms the children will be working hard to achieve their pen licence. This is awarded when they are able to write in a joined-up style really neatly, all of the time. We will award the licences on a weekly basis and the children who receive them can then use a pen in their work. The pens need to be the sort which can rub out the ink.

We´re off on our excursion to practise being safe on the road this morning. I´ll try to take some photos and post them on the blog!

Have a lovely weekend.

Welcome Back! New spellings

Dear Everyone!

I hope that you have had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed spending time with your families. I look forward to reading the diaries which the children have done. They need to be handed in by next Monday 14th January.

Here are the spellings which the children need to learn for the test on Monday 14th January:

I will give out the new homework on Friday as normal!

On Friday morning we are off to the Educación Vial trip which was cancelled last term. The children will need to wear their PE uniform. On Friday afternoon we have house team activities so they can wear a t-shirt the same colour as their house team. They don´t need to bring a different t-shirt in for the trip!

Have a good week. Happy New Year to you all!

Happy Christmas!

Dear Parents,

Just a quick message to remind you about the arrangements for tomorrow.

1. Remember the children can come into school in their street clothes. They will put on their accessories for the show just before we go down to the theatre.

2. The Christmas Show starts at 11.30. You can take your child after the show but please come to the classroom to collect them so I can write a list of names for the school register.

3. It is the last day tomorrow to bring food for the food bank.

4. The children can bring food into school tomorrow for a little party. They can also bring games to play and films, if they´d like to.

Don´t forget on January 11th we have our postponed visit for the 'Educación Vial'. Juanma´s Dad will be accompanying us. A letter will be in the children´s bags today.

I wish you all a very, very Happy Christmas. I hope that you have a wonderful time with your families. I look forward to reading the Christmas Diaries when the children bring them in - by January 14th please.

Many thanks for the gifts I´ve received for Christmas.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Miss Ali

Spellings for 17/12/18, Christmas Show and Christmas Homework!

Dear Parents,

I hope that you all enjoyed your long weekend last week. We have had a very, very busy time so far this week! Christmas madness!!

The spellings for the test on Monday 17th December are:

The Christmas Show is on the last day of term, December 21st at 11.30. That day the children can wear whatever clothes they want to. For the show I would like them to bring:

Boys - the waistcoat from the Canary costumes.
Girls - the apron from the Canary costumes.

The children are villagers so they could also wear some sort of rustic head wear - a scarf for the girls, a flat hat for the boys. Don´t worry about going out to buy anything. They could also wear some tinsel if you haven´t got anything else! Make sure the children bring these items into school by Wednesday 19th December.

For homework over the Christmas holidays, I would like the children to write a diary. A little bit of writing everyday with photos, tickets, information and so on. For the winning diaries the children will receive jungle points and stars.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Many thanks, Miss Ali
