News

Dear Parents,

We´ve been doing lots of tests this week! We´ve now finished all of them! We´re now doing end of year activities and reflecting on the past year, writing about it and drawing pictures. The pupils will have a year book to bring home next week. On Wednesday afternoon we watched the Drama Club production. Very well done to Emma and Gonzalo who did so well and knew all of their words. Yesterday afternoon, we had a very interesting assembly about First Aid.

Don´t forget that Monday is a fiesta so no school! On Tuesday we´ve got our Sports' Day and Red Nose Day. Remember that the children need to wear their house colour in the morning and then have something red for the afternoon. I don´t mind if they bring something in to get changed into. The children will be doing a Read-a-Thon - this is where everyone reads in silence. The children need to get sponsorship money for this so that we can give it to our chosen charity - Pequeños Valientes. The children will have to bring a favourite book to school to read. It doesn´t matter if it is in English or Spanish. On Wednesday the winning house team will go to the cinema. On Thursday the children can bring in games and party food to celebrate their last day.

The certificates this week were awarded to Weihao for the Spanish diploma, María for the English Award for working really hard always being respectful to everyone and Miss Ali (!!!!) for the Head Teacher's award. All of the teacher´s were awarded with the Head Teacher´s award for working well as a team this year!

Have a great long weekend.

Many thanks, Miss Ali

End of term arrangements, Red Nose Day and Sports' Day

Dear Parents,

We are coming very near to the end of our school year now so we need to make sure that everything is organised for the end of term.

Please could you make sure that any library books are returned to school this week. I will be hearing the children read their reading book for the final time and getting their new book ready for their new teacher. Please check at home to see if you have any school books and then return them.

On Tuesday 25th June we have our Sports' Day and Red Nose Day. The children will need to wear their house colours for the morning and then add something red - nose, hat, socks etc - for the afternoon. Please remember to get sponsorship for your child. All the money raised is going to Pequeños Valientes.

On Wednesday 26th June the house team which has won the most points this year will go to the cinema. Thursday 27th June is the last day for the children.

I know some of the children may not be here during the last week. Please let me know as soon as you can as we are sorting out the events which the children are going to do for Sports' Day.

Many thanks.     Miss AliImage result for red nose day

Homework week beginning 17/6/19 and other news

Dear Parents,

We had a fantastic day out in Vegueta on Tuesday. Many thanks to the parents and grandparents who came with us. It was very interesting to learn more about Christopher Columbus in Casa de Colon and about the aboriginal people in Museo Canario. We were very lucky with the weather and we
didn´t get wet!

In English, we have been looking at the structure of a finding tale, 'Alien Landing' and are going to write the sequel to it next week. The children have also written a story in their writing assessment books which, hopefully, shows what they have learnt this year! In maths we have been looking at multiplication and adding fractions. Next week we will have the end of year maths assessment and I am sending a maths revision sheet home for the children to see the types of questions they will get. We will be going through each question as revision on Monday and Tuesday next week before doing the assessments on Wednesday and Thursday.

The homework for next week is:

1. Maths Revision sheet - the children need to look at this over the weekend and then we will go through it on Monday and Tuesday. They do not need to hand it in.
2. Maths Test 30 - Due in on Friday 21st June.
3. Mental Maths - A mixture of multiplications and divisions of all the times tables, up to 12. Test on Friday 21st June.

There will be no new spellings as Monday 17th June is our last spelling test. There will be no homework for the following week. Please refer to to the reports for how to help your child over the Summer holidays. Reports are being sent out on Wednesday 26th June.

I enjoyed speaking to the parents who came on Monday evening to see me. I look forward to seeing the rest of you this Monday.

The certificates awarded this week are to Julia PM for the Spanish diploma, Lara for the English award for making excellent progress this year and Yauci and Malena received the Head Teacher´s award for being good listeners.

Have a great weekend.

Homework week beginning 10/6/19 and other news

Dear Parents,

We´ve had a great week of learning this week. We have been doing coordinates, bar charts, pictograms and line graphs in maths - all good fun! In science we have been continuing our work about sound and learning the difference between pitch and volume. Our English lessons have been based on our model text 'Alien Landing' which is a finding tale. We have been writing character and setting descriptions, trying to learn lots of new and exciting vocabulary. In art we have started to draw one of Columbus´s ships and we are getting some good results. Next week we will draw them much bigger and paint them.

The homework for next week is:

1. Maths sheet 29 - due in on Friday 14th June.
2. Mental maths - How long does an activity take in hours and minutes? For example, playtime starts at 10.30 and finishes at 10.55, how long is playtime? I got on the train at 8.15 and arrived at my destination at 12.30, how long was the journey? We set off from Las Palmas at 9.15 and got to Mogan at 10.25, how long did it take? I will put start and finish times on the clock tool from Active Learn in both analogue and digital clocks. We will practise this throughout the week. Test on Friday 14th June.
3. English - Complete the comprehension about Neil Armstrong and leave it loose in the homework book. Due in on Friday 14th June.
4. Spellings -
accept, except, bury, berry, affect, effect, meddle, medal, whether, weather, whose, who’s, where, wear, were. Learn these words for the test on Monday 17th June. The children will need to know the meanings of the words in order to spell the correct one!

There are no certificates this week because we have had the house team activities instead.

Don´t forget our trip on Tuesday to Casa de Colon and Museo Canario. Thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered to come with us. Unfortunately, on this occasion, we only actually need one extra adult as Miss Terri will be joining us. If you would like to join us at the museums you can meet us there. Please remember that you will not be able to take photos or videos whilst with the children. We will be at Casa de Colón at 10.00 am and Museo Canario at 12.00. Please could you let us know if your child is bringing their own packed lunch so that I can inform the kitchen staff.

I look forward to seeing you at the Parents´ Evenings on Monday 10th and Monday 17th of June.

Many thanks.

Homework week beginning 3/6/19 and news

Dear Parents,

We have had a wonderful celebration of Canary Day today. It´s so lovely to see the children dressed up and singing and dancing. Great to see the traditions being kept alive! It was also good to see so many of you were able to come - I think our class danced beautifully! Many thanks to Yauci and Weihao for donating the prizes for our ´Guess the name of the teddy´ stall.

There is no homework for next week, except the spellings which will be for the test on Monday 10th June:

redo, refresh, return, reappear, redecorate, react, reactivate, reassure, repack, remix, recycle, reuse, remove, rematch, resize.

There are no certificates this week as we have a very special Canary Day assembly this afternoon.

Have a very wonderful weekend, everyone.

Change to lunch menu

Dear parents,

We have changed Wednesday´s lunch menu to Friday´s and vice versa. We originally planned to have our Canary Day celebrations tomorrow instead of Friday so the menu was put on the website that way round! It means that the children will be enjoying traditional Canarian food on Friday - including mojo!

Many thanks, Miss Ali
